4400 missing persons, who have disappear over the course of
the last 60 years, are suddenly returned together in a dramatic
ball of light. None of the returnees can remember a thing, and
none have aged a day. (Think Close Encounters of the Third
Kind.) And some of them exhibit amazing new abilities ranging
from foretelling the future, to super strength, telekinesis and a
healing touch. (Think X-Men.)
The 4400 is the story of both the mysteriously returned people
and of the Federal agents who investigate what happened to
them. (And yes, think X-Files.)
The series premiered June 11, 2004 as a six hour, "mini series"
which aired as a two hour pilot followed by 4 one hour episodes
on subsequent Sunday nights.
It became obvious once the last episode aired, leaving many
open questions that the 4400 was never intended as a genuine
min-series, but rather, was a six episode back door pilot. As
such, it was an unqualified success. The pilot became the most
highly rated series premier in Cable TV history.
Consequently, the 4400 was renewed for a second season that
will begin airing June 5, 2005.
