Episode 201 - Wake Up Call
Premiering 6-5-05

The season opener did a good job of putting the series back on track following the slight let down that
ended the mini-series.  The best scenes all centered around the recurring cast.  Diana adopting Maia,
and Shawn and Kyle's reunion.  Also great was Tom and Kyle finally moving in together after Kyle's long
illness and quarantine.

The 4400 of the week plot was also very good.  Summer Glau, of Firefly again played a crazy girl.  But
this crazy girl, Tess had the power to influence those around her at the mental institution, both patients
and staff to start building a mysterious tower, which she believes will transport her back to the future.
Tom becomes fascinated while listening to her tales of the future.  Tales which turn out to be delusions
inspired by reading too much H.P. Lovecraft.  It becomes quite amusing when the NTAC agents, sent to
keep people from continuing the tower, themselves become infected and join in.

Meanwhile, Shawn appears to be in Collier's thrall, and bouncing back and forth as to whether he is a
prisoner, or a true believer of Collier's Scientology-lite new religion.  Shawn's scene with Kyle, who wants
to bring Shawn back to the family fold, is the best part of the episode.  Nice to finally get to know the real
Kyle.

Less interesting was Richard, Lily, and baby Isabelle's endless trek through the forest, being chased by
a trio of over-the-top Bible thumping hicks.  It seemed to go on and on and on before the inevitable
Baby-ex-Machina saved the day

Episode 202 - Voices Carry
Premiering 6-12-05

Tom & Diana investigate 4400 Gary Navarro, a baseball layer taken from the 1970's is plagued by his
newly emerged ability to read minds.  Taking advantage of Gary's ability, Ferris, and her superiors back
in Washington, decide to send him to The 4400 Center to spy on Jordan Collier and his dealings with
shady Ian Dravitt.

The most significant development of this episode is that it examines both NTAC and The 4400 Center,
and leaves a question mark over which is the good guys and which is the bad.  Navarro just wants to play
baseball, and asks Tom's help.  But the powers that be above Tom do not allow this, as Gary's ability is
too valuable to let him go.  On the other hand, Collier's dealings with Dravitt are clearly underhanded, but
his apparent concern for The 4400's well being seems sincere.

Richard and Lily are still boring on this episode as they remain on the road.

Saintly Shawn is, as always adorable as he argues with Collier over Dravitt.

Tom's "great dad" image gets blown to bits as he forgets to pay Kyle's tuition.  And big trouble is
forshadowed for Kyle, as one wonders about his mysterious zoning out.

My Score:  8.5
Episode 203 - Weight of the World
Premiering 6-19-05

Tom & Diana investigate 4400 Trent Applebaum who has discovered that his saliva can induce rapid
weight loss.  However, like most such apparent panaceas, the gift turns out to have a downside, as the
weight loss does not stop until the subject totally starves to death.  The part somewhat icky part of Trent
Applebaum is appealingly played by Robert Picardo of Star Trek Voyager.

Elsewhere, Kyle's blackout trouble worsens, and Shawn & Jordan's father/son relationship becomes
more apparent as Jordan reveals to Shawn that he has made him the sole heir to the Center, and all
Jordan's billions.

Richard & Lily find some respite from their vravails on the run at the home of 4400 Eric Papequash,
which eventually goes bad, forcing them onto the road again.

The Shawn/Jordan relationship continues to intrigue me.  In Wake Up Call, it seemed very one sided, with
Shawn under Jordan's thumb.  But as the episodes progress, it becomes clear that Shawn influences
Jordan jsut as much.

My Score: 6.5
Episode 204 - Suffer the Children
Premiering 6-26-05

Tom & Diana follow the case of a 4400 art teacher who has the ability to awaken artistic  and musical
talents within her students.  One of the students is angry that she can't find a talent for him, and it
results in a confrontation with a gun in the classroom.

Meanwhile, Shawn develops a friendship with Liv, a homeless girl, which leads to potential trouble when
he heals her junkie boyfriend in public.

Jordan finally locates Richard & Lily after Richard is jailed.  This leads to the big reunion between
Richard, Lily, Jordan and most importantly... Isabelle, whom Jordan credits with his change of attitude
towards The 4400.   The agree that if Isabelle accepts him, R & L will return with him to The Center.
Isabelle greets him with a great big smile.

The teacher is very pretty and pleasant and likable, but this storyline isn't very interesting.  Much more
satisfying is Jordan's reunion with Richard & Lily and Isabelle's acceptance of him.  Also wonderful are
Jordan's very parental interactions with Shawn, and Shawn's endearing encounters with the homeless
folks.
